From learning English as a Second Language to pursuing a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity at Georgia Tech! my journey has been defined by resilience, growth, and a passion for technology.
Hello, my name is Nimco Abdi, I’m a cybersecurity professional who loves solving problems, protecting both individuals and systems, and making technology safer for everyone. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Cybersecurity at Georgia Tech. I have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, CompTIA Security+ and AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certifications.
I started my career as a front-end developer, and that helped me to develop strong technical skills and a deep understanding of how systems are built. But as I worked more closely with developers, I started thinking beyond functionality, and I began to wonder how to secure what I was developing. That curiosity led me to cybersecurity. I realized I wanted to do more than just build systems; I wanted to protect them. That’s what inspired me to make the transition into the cybersecurity field, where I now focus on threat detection, vulnerability assessments, and risk management. I love the challenge of staying ahead of threats and the constant learning that comes with this fast-moving field.
My journey didn’t begin with tech. I came to the U.S. not knowing any English. I had to start from the very beginning learning the language, getting my GED, and building my future step by step. Every challenge made me stronger and more determined. Today, I’m excited to grow in the cybersecurity field. Outside of work and school, I’m a proud mom of three wonderful kids. I love sharing my story and showing that with hard work, anything is possible.
